Dyrus on life in TSM without a salary and changes in esports

Former professional League of Legends player Marcus “Dyrus” Hill recently spoke about his experience with Team SoloMid, stating that he never received a salary during his time with the team. He shared this surprising information in a Twitter thread while answering questions from fans curious about his career. Dyrus explained that he barely makes a living relying on income from his streaming activities and prize money from competitions. He noted that during his time with TSM, the developers did not provide any budget for the maintenance of the team, making it difficult for players to support themselves specifically through their participation in an organization. Such a lack of financial support was a reality that many players faced at the time. Looking back on his journey, Dyrus said that he had already lost interest in the game by the time Riot Games changed its policy and introduced franchised leagues. When he moved on to other jobs, the change in the competitive landscape was too late for him.

Dyrus spent over five remarkable years with SoloMid, a period that defined his career. He joined the team in 2012 and became a key player on the main roster for an impressive 3.5 years. He later transitioned into a content creator role, allowing him to share his gaming experiences with fans before finally leaving the organization in 2017. During his time with TSM, he achieved considerable success, winning multiple NA LCS splits and making his mark on the international stage, appearing at the World Championship three times.
